Requirements & Eligibility
Our Gold Star Family Home Program aims to assist young families of military heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending our country. Since 9/11, more than 7,000 service members have lost their lives in the line of duty, resulting in numerous young Gold Star families requiring support. Despite our desire to offer a mortgage-free home to every family, several factors, including funding availability, impact the number of families we can aid annually.
We understand that every family’s circumstances are distinct. When assessing candidates for our Gold Star Family Home Program, it takes into account the following criteria:
The following conditions must be met for eligibility:
- A U.S. Military Service Member is deceased due to action in a combat zone or during authorized training.
- The deceased Service Member has a surviving young child or children, at least one of whom is 16 years of age or younger.
- If the Service Member and the surviving parent were married, they cannot have been divorced or separated at the time of death.
- The surviving parent of the Service Member’s child(ren) should not be remarried, engaged, or cohabitating.
- The surviving family must meet the program’s financial criteria.
*Priority is given to applicants if the nuclear family with the Service Member has remained unchanged since the time of death, based on funding availability.
